What inspired you to start GMB Custom Apparel, and how has the business evolved to become a one-stop print shop?
Honestly, GMB started out of pure hustle and passion. I wanted to build something that gave people the power to bring their ideas to life — whether it was a team shirt, a business uniform, or a creative project. Over time, we realized customers needed more than just shirts — they wanted someone who could handle everything under one roof. So, we expanded into embroidery, signage, banners, patches, and promotional products. Now, if it can be branded, we can make it happen.
As a family-owned business in Eastern NC, how do your local roots shape your company culture and customer relationships?
Being family-owned means our customers feel like family too. We treat every project like it’s personal because it is — most of our clients are local schools, small businesses, and community organizations we see every day. Our culture is built on transparency, integrity, and real connection. We’re proud to represent Eastern North Carolina and give back through the same communities that helped us grow.
You offer a wide range of services, from screen printing and embroidery to signage and uniforms. How do you maintain quality across so many areas?
We’ve built systems. Every service has a process — from artwork approvals to production checks. Our team specializes in different areas, but we all hold the same standard: if it wouldn’t make us proud to wear it, it doesn’t leave the shop. We also use professional-grade equipment and take time to double-check every order before it’s packed.
What differentiates GMB from other print shops, and how do you make sure customers recognize that difference?
We don’t just print shirts — we build brands. A lot of print shops stop at taking your order; we go deeper. We help design, organize, and even launch your merch store or team gear. Our customer service is hands-on, and we’re transparent when things don’t go perfectly — we fix it fast. That honesty and care are what people remember and what keeps them coming back.
Looking ahead, what are your goals for the next few years, new markets, services, or expansion plans?
We’re focused on expanding our footprint — opening new locations, tapping into collegiate licensing, and growing our online presence. We’re also investing more into same-day DTF printing, ecommerce stores for schools and businesses, and eventually adding a full design lab experience where customers can create in real time.
The site mentions same-day service for in-stock items. How do you decide where to prioritize speed versus craftsmanship?
We always start by asking what the customer needs most — if it’s for an event tomorrow, we move fast but never skip steps that affect quality. We’ve learned how to streamline without cutting corners. Some jobs need speed; others need precision — our team knows how to balance both.
How do you ensure consistent color, sizing, and print quality from design to finished product?

How do you help schools or sports programs balance affordability, speed, and quality?
We create packages that make sense for their budget and deadlines. For example, we offer bulk pricing with optional add-ons like personalization. We also help them avoid rush fees by setting up online stores ahead of the season so players and parents can order directly. It saves everyone time and money.
What differentiates GMB from other print shops, and how do you make sure customers recognize that difference?

How do you handle bulk team orders while keeping customization for each player?
We’ve got a system that tracks every name, number, and size before we print. Each item gets labeled, folded, and bagged individually so there are no mix-ups. It looks professional and makes distribution easy for coaches and organizers.
How do you handle issues like misprints, sizing discrepancies, or quality concerns?
We own our mistakes. If something’s off, we fix it — no excuses. We’d rather replace or redo a job than have a customer walk away unhappy. That’s part of our brand — transparency and making it right, every time.
Can customers bring in their own garments or fabrics, or do you only print on in-house inventory?
We only accept outside garments in limited cases, like for corporate uniforms or specific brands that fit their dress code. Otherwise, we use our in-house inventory because we know how it reacts under heat and print conditions — that’s how we guarantee quality results.
How do you make sure colors on-screen match what’s printed on fabric?
Screens can be tricky, so we always use Pantone color matching and test prints. Our design team adjusts based on the fabric type, since cotton and polyester absorb color differently. Customers also get digital proofs and, when needed, physical samples before we go into full production.
What’s been the biggest challenge in scaling the business while keeping up with custom orders and turnaround times?
One of our biggest challenges as we’ve grown has been maintaining the personal touch our customers have always appreciated. For a long time, Myke handled everything himself—every text message, every conversation, every detail of every order. But as demand increased, we knew we had to evolve.
We introduced streamlined intake systems, built a strong team around us, and committed to being fully transparent about timelines. Through it all, one thing has remained at the heart of our business: clear, honest communication. And to be completely real—we’re still improving this process every day.
What’s been your proudest moment as owner, and what’s something you wish you’d known earlier?
Proudest moment? Seeing our work all over the community — schools, events, businesses — and knowing it came out of our shop.
What I wish I knew earlier: charge what you’re worth and set policies early. It saves a lot of headaches.
How does innovation factor into your work, like printing, rhinestones, or full uniforms?
We like to stay ahead. When customers start asking for something new — rhinestones, DTF, full-team kits — we test it, add it, and make it part of our services. Innovation for us is just listening to what people actually want.
What trends in custom apparel are you most excited about right now?
I love the personalization side — teams wanting player packs, schools wanting online stores, and brands wanting small runs but high quality. Also DTF and mixed-media looks are big right now.
Do you offer design or branding help for schools that don’t have in-house designers?
Yes. A lot of schools don’t have a designer, so we help with logos, layouts, and spirit wear ideas. We can even set up an online store so they can fundraise without touching inventory.
What types of ECU products are you able to create now that you’re licensed?
We can produce a wide range of officially licensed items — everything from T-shirts, hoodies, varsity jackets, hats, tote bags, and drinkware to banners, decals, and car magnets. If it carries the ECU name or Pirate branding, we make sure it meets all licensing standards so customers get the real deal.

GMB Custom Apparel is more than a print shop—it is the result of faith, perseverance, and a deep commitment to serving people with excellence. Based in Greenville, North Carolina, GMB Custom Apparel is a family-owned, full-service print shop providing custom apparel, embroidery, screen printing, DTF transfers, signage, promotional products, and complete branding solutions for businesses, schools, teams, and organizations nationwide.
The company was founded by Myke and Shana after making a life-changing decision to relocate from Youngstown, Ohio, to Greenville, NC, to pursue career growth and new opportunities. Shana worked as an oncology nurse, while Myke served as a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) in a corporate hospital environment. Both were dedicated to caring for others, yet felt called to build something of their own—something that blended creativity, service, faith, and community impact.
With no family nearby and a strong desire to create meaningful connections and additional income, the journey began with a small custom bling brand called Get Me Bedazzled. The business specialized in rhinestone apparel for dance studios, bridal parties, gymnastics teams, and special events. Operating out of their garage, orders were created by hand—one design at a time—through long nights, hard work, and unwavering faith.
As demand increased through word of mouth and genuine relationships, Myke made the bold decision to step away from his corporate career and focus on growing the business full-time, while Shana balanced nursing and entrepreneurship. Eventually, the business outgrew the garage and moved into a brick-and-mortar location in Greenville, NC. Shortly after, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted businesses nationwide.
What could have ended the dream became a turning point. Through faith in Jesus Christ, disciplined execution, and the loyalty of customers and team members, the business not only survived—it evolved. Get Me Bedazzled transformed into GMB Custom Apparel, expanding beyond rhinestones into a full-service custom print shop. The name retained its original initials as a tribute to its roots while reflecting a broader vision and expanded capabilities.
Today, GMB Custom Apparel offers professional embroidery, custom t-shirt printing, screen printing, DTF transfers, uniforms, promotional products, signs, banners, large-format printing, business cards, and complete marketing solutions—all under one roof.
